Laboratory Technician

are continuing to accept applications for fall 2013.
Follow the application procedures outlined below.
IMPORTANT
NOTE:
-
MLT Program Applications can
be dropped off at the Division Office
(ALLB-307) during business hours Monday through
Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. After normal
business hours,
you may drop your application off at the switchboard
which is now located in Bonelli Hall, Room 241.

currently in progress with a prerequisite or if you do
not have a Phlebotomy certificate, please call the
Allied Health and Public Safety Division Office at (661)
362-3557.

The Medical
Laboratory Technology Program is a state-accredited two-year program
resulting in an Associate in Science Degree in Medical
Laboratory Technology. This program prepares students for
employment in clinical laboratories, industry, and
biotechnology. The MLT Program curriculum, an integration of
classroom lectures, student laboratories, and clinical
training, fosters development of analytical and problem
solving skills required in this profession. After successful
completion of the program, students may sit for the national
exam.
This new job area is experiencing increasing demand in both
hospitals and biotechnical labs, particularly pharmaceutical
labs conducting human research. An Medical Laboratory
Technician earns approximately
$40,000/year.

Anatomy (4 semester
units or 6 quarter units)

Physiology (4 semester
units or 6 quarter units)

Microbiology (4 semester
units or 6 quarter units)

Preparatory General Chemistry (4
semester units or 6 quarter units) - may
accept Introductory Chemistry or equivalent; check with
department

Phlebotomy
(3.5 units) - may be taken
concurrently or upon program entry; check with
department

English 101 (3 semester
units
or 5 quarter units)
NOTE:
There is no recency policy regarding prerequisites.
Completing program prerequisites
does not assure admission into the program. Admission
into the program is based on space availability,
clinical clearance requirements, and background checks.

Application
Procedure
Follow these
steps in this order by the deadlines indicated
above:

Submit
College of the Canyons application and
obtain a student identification number.
-
Submit the following documents to Admissions and
Records:
-
Official sealed transcripts from
all colleges attended,
except COC (must include all coursework
regardless if MLT prerequisite or not)
-
For transcripts from other countries, an
official sealed foreign transcript
evaluation from a
NACES approved
agency OR ACCRAO.
-
Official College Board AP English score
-
Submit
MLT Program Application to the Allied
Health and Public Safety Division Office (accepted
once a year for subsequent spring and fall semesters;
check website for exact dates).
A copy of high school transcript, copy of
diploma, OR copy of GED
certificate if no college degree is posted
on transcript (required for State
certification); if from foreign country,
must provide translation; and Phlebotomy certificate
must be attached to the
application. A valid COC email address is
required. Incomplete applications will
not be eligible for evaluation.

The MLT application and official transcripts
will be evaluated to determine if applicant
meets current MLT Program selection criteria.
Applicants will not be eligible for selection if
admission requirements are not met.
