Heidi Esslinger
Professor of German, Germany

Heidi Esslinger received her Masters degrees in German and English literature from the University of Mannheim in Mannheim, Germany. Following this, she began working on a doctorate in German literature at Rice University in Houston, Texas, where her research focused on Uwe Timm and 20th Century Literature. Heidi has been teaching German and English as a Second Language in Germany and the United States for more than 20 years. Her experience as a language instructor includes both the private sector and institutions of higher education, including Rice University, University of St. Thomas, The Goethe Institute, Cal Arts and BOCES of New York. Animal welfare is very dear to her heart. Volunteering at animal rescues has led to sharing her life with more four-‐legged creatures than originally planned. Currently, she is focusing on building a strong first year German program at College of the Canyons.
