APA Style 2 (Citing & Referencing Material)

Introduction

Once you have mastered the basics of APA citation format, you are ready to move into more advanced topics.

This activity will help you become a stronger student and a better writer by giving you additional instruction and practice in quoting and citing your sources.

By the end of this activity, you should be able to:
  • Understand how to quote and paraphrase material.
  • Cite material retrieved from multiple sources, using APA 6th Edition guidelines.
  • Understand how to format a reference page

Let's get started!

If at any time you need help, please ask a tutor.

Step 1:

First you'll need to make sure you have the handouts for this activity. If you don't, ask a tutor to help you.

Step 2:

Find the handout called "APA Style 2: Citations and References − Introduction" in the Supplemental Learning Workbook and read it carefully.

Step 3:

Watch this PowerPoint presentation on advanced quoting and citing techniques. Pay close attention and follow the presentation in the "Introduction" handout, because you will be asked to do some exercises at the end of the PowerPoint.
Stop the PowerPoint when you reach the first exercise.

Step 4:

Complete the PowerPoint exercises 1 through 5. You will find the same exercises on the handout called "APA Style 2: Citations and References − Worksheet". After you are done with each exercise, you may check your answer by advancing to the next PowerPoint slide.

STOP and review your worksheet with a tutor.

Step 5:

Complete the quiz and self-reflection in the handouts.

Step 6:

Review your work with a tutor.

That's it. You are done! Thank you for completing this guided learning activity.
