Athletics at COC- The Student Perspective
In order to play sports at a community college, a student must abide by the constitution and bylaws of the California Community College Athletic Association, be enrolled in the class of the sport thes tudents is participating in, and carry at least 12 units. If you are intersted in being a student athlete at College of the Canyons, please fill out the Contact Form and a coach will respond to you.
Important Information for all Athletes
Here are some of the bylaws that each student will want to pay particular attention to when s/he is participating in a sport:
1.3.1- Athletes must be enrolled in 12 units to compete.
1.3.7- All second season athletes must have a student educational plan on file with the college.
1.3.8- All athletes must be enrolled and attending class by the 4th week of the class to participate.
1.6.1- Student must complete 24 units with a 2.0 between seasons.
1.10.1- Transfer students must complete 12 units of coursework prior to the beginning of the semester of competition at the transfer school.
1.10.5- Of the 12 units listed in 1.10.1, only 8 can be satisfied by the winter or summer term.

Residency
All athletes coming from another state will be considered a non-resident for tuition purposes. There are two parts to becoming a resident of California; (1) The student must be physically present in the state for one year and one day prior to the start of the term for which the student begins, and (2), the student must have the intent on making California his/her home. If you feel you meet these two requirements, please contact the Admissions and Records office to discuss your residency classification. Please also visit our residency web page for more information. PLEASE NOTE: You cannot be supported by an out of state parent or guardian. Therefore, if that person claim's you on their taxes, you will not be reclassified as a resident of California.
Code of Conduct
All athletes of College of the Canyons represent the athletic program they play for and the College. Therefore, all athletes must adhere to a strict code of conduct. At College of the Canyons, we hold ourselves to the highest caliber of play and moral conduct. We not only have winning programs we have outstanding athletes. Please see your coach for the code of conduct we live by.
Transfer Information
If you are an athlete ready to move from College of the Canyons to the next level, there are requirements you must meet. First, make sure you have met with your Athletic Counselor so you can determine student education plan that will put you on the right track to your transfer school. You should meet with the Athletic Counselor during your first season with College of the Canyons. There are many things to consider when you are going to transfer and the Athletic Counselor will help you with your particular situation and goals.
Important steps to register
In order to become an athlete at College of the Canyons, you must first become a student. There are five steps to becoming a student:
Once you have met with your counselor, the counselor will give you a registration date to register for your classes. You must meet with your counselor so the counselor can give you that date. Once you register for classes, you must complete a few more steps to become eligible to play:
Remember, you have people who can help you navigate through the college process. If you need help, please ask your coach, your athletic counselor or your athletic eligibility clerk in the Admissions and Records office.
