COC Women’s Soccer Tabbed No. 7 In The Nation In Preseason Poll
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team has been named the No. 7 team in the nation, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll.
Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kansas, the NSCAA has grown into the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization, serving members at every level of the game. To see the complete poll, please click here.
The Cougars finished last year as the sixth-ranked team after ending the year with an 18-1-4 record and earning the program’s fifth Western State Conference Championship and the second in as many years.
Though the rankings have no bearing on regular and post-season play, the poll does deem a national champion at the end of the season. Last year, Cerritos College was named the national champion.
Four California community colleges were named higher than COC, including top-ranked Cerritos College, Santiago Canyon College, Sierra College and San Diego Miramar College. National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) member and 2012 National NJCAA Champion Mohawk Valley Community College in New York was deemed No. 3 and NJCAA National runner-up Gloucester County College in New Jersey, was named the No. 5 team in the country.
COC made its first appearance on the national poll under fifth-year head coach Justin Lundin last year. Canyons appeared as high as the No. 3 team in the nation in early November.
