What is the goal behind BSI?
The BSI is designed to ensure that developmental level education (i.e. basic skills) is a major focus and an adequately funded activity of the California Community Colleges.
Where should I go if I want more information?
The Basic Skills Website has a number of great publications, resources, and tools. Listed below are links to the three major components of the study:
1. Literature Review: Basic Skills As a Foundation for Student Success in California Community Colleges
4. Effective Practices:
- Organizational and Administrative Practices

How do I get involved in the Skills4Success Committee?
Anyone is welcome to participate. You should contact anyone of the members of Task Force or your Division Dean for additional information.
I have a new idea I’d like to try to improve basic skills student success, how can I get funding to support the idea?
The request for funds form is available on the Skills4Success website along with the
rubric that will provide the mechanism for evaluation of each proposal. The proposal should be submitted to the co-coordinators of the initiative. Each proposal will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the
Skills4Success committee and recommendations made to the co-coordinators and the Vice President of Instruction. Funding is limited to new, innovative ideas that support the improvement of basic skills. The amount of funding available each year will be announced at the beginning of each academic year.
