What kind of training will I receive at College of the Canyons?
College of the Canyons offers an Associate of Arts Degree and Certificate of Achievement in Graphic and Multimedia Design with an emphasis in Graphic Design or Multimedia. The Graphic and Multimedia Design (GMD) program offers a project-based curriculum where students learn to combine images and text to communicate identity branding, logo design and advertising concepts. They create and prepare digital art for career opportunities in areas such as:
• prepress
• digital video production
• game design
• print media
• motion graphics
• digital photography
• web design
• computer-related illustration
• graphic design

What is the difference between “Graphic Design” and “Multimedia?”
The Graphic Design emphasis focuses on design for printed publication and screen publication. The Multimedia emphasis focuses on interactive design, such as web interfaces for web pages. No matter what emphasis you choose, the job market is growing rapidly.

Some job duties associated with the Graphic and Multimedia Design:
• Create designs, concepts and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts
• Develop graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos and Internet websites
• Prepare illustrations or rough sketches of material, discuss them with clients or supervisors and make necessary changes
• Plan site design by clarifying goals; design functionality
• Develop site navigation by categorizing content, funneling traffic through content
• Use the creative process to develop compelling design solutions
