What is Water Technology?
Our drinking water follows a path from storage to treatment plants, through the distribution system, to the customer’s tap and finally to wastewater facilities. These components are vital to providing our communities with safe and reliable drinking water.

Water Technology encompasses a variety of careers in the water and wastewater industries. Both the private and public sector employ thousands of water professionals in areas such as:
• Distribution
• Treatment
• Water Quality
• Customer Service
• Engineering
• Testing and more

Rewarding Career Options:
Water Distribution Operator
- Operate water and maintain valves, fire hydrants, pumps and other mechanical equipment
- Read water meters
- Repair water leaks
- Interact with the public

• Water Treatment Operator
- Maintain and operate treatment systems and mechanical equipment
- Collect water quality data
- Perform laboratory tests on water samples
- Prepare reports on water quality and production

• Water Quality Specialist
- Collect water samples
- Perform laboratory tests on water samples
- Analyze data and write reports
- Interact with various state and local agencies

• Cross Connection Control Specialists
- Test cross connection control devices
- Write reports
- Repair cross connection control devices
- Work with water utilities and various government agencies

• Professional Engineers
- Design treatment and distribution facilities
- Develop new treatment technologies
- Prepare written reports
- Presentireports to the public

In addition to preparing students for a career in water technology, the College offers water industry professionals Continuing Education Units to meet the requirements for taking California Department of Public Health exams and earning Contact Hours to fulfill the renewal requirements for both Distribution and Treatment certifications.
