Bomb

BOMB THREATS AND SUSPICIOUS PACKAGES
Any person receiving a
bomb threat via telephone should ask the caller the following:
-
When is the bomb going to explode?
-
Where is the bomb located?
-
What kind of bomb is it and what does
it look like?
-
Why did you place the bomb on campus?
Keep talking to the
caller as long as possible and record the following facts:
-
Time of call.
-
Estimate of the age and gender of
caller.
-
Speech pattern, accent, distinguishing
vocal characteristics.
-
Emotional state of the caller.
-
Background noise.
After the call, proceed
as follows:
-
Do not open drawers or cabinets or turn
lights on or off
-
IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL
STAFF WITH TWO-WAY RADIOS AND BASE STATIONS: Immediately turn off your
radio and base station. Do not transmit under any circumstances as this may
activate the bomb.
-
Notify Campus Safety by dialing campus extension
3229. Designated personnel familiar with the area will conduct a basic search
of the area.
-
Immediately activate the building alarm and clear
the area. When the alarm sounds, walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and
alert others to do the same.
-
Assist physically challenged persons in exiting the
building. Remember that elevators are reserved for disabled persons use during
emergencies. Do not use elevators in case of fire. Stay calm, do not panic.
-
Once outside, proceed to a safe area at least 500
feet away from any structure and remain there until an “all clear” is given. It
is important to keep the streets, fire lanes, hydrants and walkways clear for
emergency vehicles and first responders.
-
Do not return to an evacuated building until it has
been established safe to do so by a College official.
