Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)


First Aid for Student Injuries


Dial “7” on any campus phone for direct emergency assistance. The operator will notify the Student Health & Wellness Center and Campus Safety, and is aware if the Nurse is on or off duty. Campus Safety will assist with emergencies during the Nurse’s absence. Allied Health has also agreed to provide assistance when their personnel are on campus.

Nurse On-Campus

Minor Injury Emergencies:  cuts, abrasions, sprains, minor burns, epileptic seizures, minor eye debris, brief fainting (without head injury), etc.:

  1. Assess emergency needs

  2. Render needed first aid

  3. Transport to the Student Health & Wellness Center

Severe or Critical Injury Emergencies:  cessation or difficulty breathing, chest pains, deformity fracture, uncontrolled bleeding, prolonged unconsciousness, irreversible shock, impalement of foreign objects, electrical shock, back injury, etc.

  1. Assess emergency needs

  2. Ask someone to call operator at campus extension “7”.  Also, advise the operator to call Fire Department by dialing 911 immediately.  (It is important that the operator is aware of the situation in obtaining assistance).  When calling 9-1-1, the caller should have the following information available:

  • Specific location of the emergency

  • Telephone number or campus extension from which you are calling
  • State briefly what happened and provide an description of the situation, number of people involved and approximate age of injured student, if possible
  • Indicate what is being done; describe emergency measures initiated

3. Render immediate first aid or resuscitation

4. STAY WITH THE INJURED PERSON—THE INJURED PERSON SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED

5. The Nurse will arrive, assess medical needs and will provide or direct aid or resuscitation until the Emergency Medical Services arrive

Nurse Off-Campus

  1. Assess emergency needs.

  2. Render needed first aid.

  3. Call operator at campus extension 7.  The operator will notify Campus Safety, Nursing faculty and/or the Administrator in charge, as needed.

  4. If further treatment is needed, arrange for transportation.

  5. Have a friend or family member of the student arrange for transportation to medical facility of student’s choice.

  6. Campus Safety, faculty and/or staff member are NOT to transport injured student for medical care.

  7. Report accident to Student Health & Wellness Center, campus extension 3259, within 24 hours.

2. Direct someone to call operator at campus extension “7”.  Operator will call 9-1-1 and will notify Campus Safety, Nursing Faculty and the Administrator in Charge.

3. Caller should have the following information available:

6. Report accident to Student Health & Wellness Center, campus extension 3259, within 24 hours.

Transportation of Injured Student

  • Athletic injuries will be assessed by the athletic team coach or athletic trainer.

  • General student injuries will be assessed by the College Nurse or Campus Safety.

  • Once medical stability has been established, mode of transportation can be recommended (i.e., ambulance or         private vehicle). 

  • In the event that a private vehicle is used, a parent, relative or friend shall transport the injured. 

  • Staff will NOT transport the injured student off campus. 

  • The team coach or trainer is authorized to transport an injured student at other college athletic contests for “away” games.

First Aid Cabinet Locations

There are first aid cabinets located in the following departments which contain an assortment of first aid supplies (bandages, gauze pads, eye wash, etc.):
