Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
Evacuation Procedures

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
(FOR EVACUATION
ASSEMBLY AREAS REFER TO APPENDICES)
It is important to study
the Evacuation Plan posted in your building prior to an emergency. Managers and
supervisors must communicate these Evacuation Plans with their staff and
Instructors must discuss the plan with their students.
-
All building evacuations will occur
when an alarm sounds, or upon notification by a campus authority, or Floor
Warden
-
When the building evacuation alarm is
activated during an emergency, leave by the nearest marked exit and alert others
to do the same
-
Assist physically challenged persons
to exit the building
-
Do not use the elevators in case of
fire or earthquake
-
Once outside, proceed to your
designated evacuation assembly area (refer to Campus Maps) and remain until an
“all clear” signal is given. It is important to keep streets, fire lanes,
hydrant areas and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and first responder
personnel
-
Do not return to an evacuated building
until it has been established safe by a College official
-
Evacuation of all or part of the
campus grounds will be announced by the Incident Commander, College
Administrator or Campus Safety Officer
-
All persons (students, staff and
visitors) are to immediately vacate the site in question and relocate to another
part of the grounds or to an off-campus site as directed
limited mobility defined
Any person with a disability,
temporary or permanent, or other condition that would require them to need assistance during an evacuation is considered as having limited mobility
- Persons
dependent on crutches, canes, walkers, etc.
- Persons confined to wheelchairs
- Persons
recovering from surgery
- Pregnant women
- Persons with
significant hearing or sight impairment
- Persons with
extreme obesity
Every individual who is placed on the
Limited Mobility Evacuation List must be assured that information provided to
building management/staff will be kept confidential and is to be used only to
provide safe and quick evacuation in an emergency condition on-campus
Mobility Assistants
-
During an emergency evacuation
Mobility Assistants will assist these individuals. Mobility Assistants should
have the knowledge of how to safely evacuate the persons they are assigned to
assist with limited mobility (i.e., use of proper lifts and carriers) and ask
the person how they can best be assisted
-
Once the primary destination has been
reached (bottom of stairwell), take the person to the appropriate designated
evacuation assembly site
-
The Building Captains and the Floor
Wardens shall maintain a current list of individuals with limited mobility needs
