What are OERs?

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are materials created under Creative Commons, a public copyright license that gives others permission to share and add to an otherwise copyrighted work for educational use.

OERs  are fairly new to the educational system, but have been gaining popularity and are being used more commonly on the web.

The high cost of textbooks and materials prevents many students who want to pursue higher education from achieving their goals. College of the Canyons is beginning to use OERs to bring these costs down.

If you would like to read more about what College of the Canyons is doing with OER, please visit the COC OER page.
