What is accelerated learning?
College of the Canyons offers a variety of courses in accelerated, or short-term, learning formats. Our GO! classes are 5-week, online courses. PACE classes are typically 8-week hybrid classes that meet both Saturdays (on campus) and online. PAL courses are offered in pairs: two 8-week Math or two 8-week English classes offered back-to-back in one semester with the same instructor and same classmates. Am I ready to take accelerated learning classes?
Every student learns differently from one another. Short-term (accelerated) classes may not span a full 16-week semester, but the student makes up for that with a more intense workload. For instance, a 5-unit math course would normally meet roughly 5 hours per week. In an accelerated 8-week format, you would spend about 10 hours per week in the classroom, plus all of your study and homework time. You have to decide if you’re the type of student who likes to buckle down and focus intensely over a short period of time.
