PAL classes require you to attend an orientation session. Click here to get our schedule of orientation sessions, or click on the PAL link above for more information.
Before your online, hybrid, or GO! class begins, you need to read your instructor's Orientation Letter.
Our classes are popular and fill quickly, but not everyone knows about what we offer. Please add us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for all the current scoop on what classes and programs we offer and what you need to do to sign up. Open educational resources (OERs) are online learning objects that are free to use and share for all, as long as credit to the author is given. We at College of the Canyons are committed to doing more research and study into how to lower the cost of educational materials for students.
We are working to partner with student government on campus to help promote our efforts. As we have more information, we will be sure to share it on our Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Through our U.S. Department of Education FIPSE grant, we have limited funding to help you plan, record, produce, and caption video and animation content. Please contact John Makevich (661-362-3102) to set up an appointment.
We’re in the process of building a repository with all kinds of OER content. Click here to enter the repository and explore.
College of the Canyons offers a variety of courses in accelerated, or short-term, learning formats. Our GO! classes are 5-week, online courses. PACE classes are typically 8-week hybrid classes that meet both Saturdays (on campus) and online. PAL courses are offered in pairs: two 8-week Math or two 8-week English classes offered back-to-back in one semester with the same instructor and same classmates. Please click on the links above to learn more about each program.
Every student learns differently from one another. Short-term (accelerated) classes may not span a full 16-week semester, but the student makes up for that with a more intense workload. For instance, a 5-unit math course would normally meet roughly 5 hours per week. In an accelerated 8-week format, you would spend about 10 hours per week in the classroom, plus all of your study and homework time. You have to decide if you’re the type of student who likes to buckle down and focus intensely over a short period of time.
