In 15 years together as a band, celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli has established itself as a musical force to be reckoned with. The music -- a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East L.A. R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga -- has long followed a key mantra: to take you around the world by taking you around L.A. The multicultural band has played every venue, from inner-city elementary schools to headlining the Hollywood Bowl. Ozomatli has served as the official cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department in Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East, while also playing free concerts, offering musical workshops and visiting youth rehabilitation centers. The unique blend of music and message continues to build bridges of diplomacy, making Ozomatli the ambassador of its own brand of incredibly powerful musical activism.
