The Measure C Citizens Oversight Committee has determined that College of the Canyons is in compliance with the legal requirements set forth in Proposition 39, which mandates that an oversight committee composed of community members oversee the proper disbursement of bond revenues.
The committee approved a resolution to that effect on May 30.
The committee was formed following passage of Measure C in 2001 and tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that bond revenues are expended properly and that no bond funds are used for faculty or administrative salaries or other college expenses.
Measure C passed with 68 percent of the vote on Nov. 6, 2001, providing $82.1 million in bond revenue for much-needed construction of new facilities and renovation of the College of the Canyons campus. The 12-member oversight committee, appointed on Jan. 23, 2002, has met five times.
So far, Measure C funds have been used to renovate Cougar Stadium. Upcoming projects include a reconfigured entrance drive off Rockwell Canyon Road and a new music/dance building to be constructed adjacent to the Performing Arts Center, which itself is currently under construction.
The public is welcome to attend committee meetings.
