Theatre Department to Present ‘The Illusion’ Nov. 14 to 23
The College of the Canyons Theatre Department will close its fall season with a production of American playwright Tony Kushner’s ‘The Illusion’ at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center's Black Box Theater.
‘The Illusion’ is based on French playwright Pierre Corneille’s 17th century masterpiece ‘L’illusion Comique.’ It is a wildly entertaining tale of passion, regret, love and disillusionment.
The play follows Pridamant, a proud but desperate father, who journeys to the cave of wizard Alcandre in search of his son who ran away as a young man. The wizard grants Pridamant’s wish showing him three separate and distinct events from his son’s life.
The encounter, however, leaves Pridamant with more questions than answers as he tries to determine the true fate of his son.
‘The Illusion’ is directed by Randee Trabitz, who also directed ‘Mr. Marmalade’ at College of the Canyons. Trabitz has also directed work at Cal State Los Angeles, and at various international festivals and regional theaters.
The production features a cast of actors returning to the COC stage, including Allen Garcia and David Adler (‘Of Mice and Men’), Lawrence Patchin (‘Rent’) and Judge Boothby (‘Mr. Marmalade’).
The production will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. Additional performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Nov. 15, 21 and 22, and 2 p.m. Nov. 16 and 23.
Tickets for all performances are $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors. There is also an additional $3 facilities charge.
The show is recommended for general audiences. Children under the age of 5 will not be allowed into the theater.
