Subject: The Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees will conduct applicant interviews and appoint a new member to fill Board Seat No. 5 during a special open session meeting beginning at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan.14.
Event: The Board of Trustees is responsible for the oversight of the Santa Clarita Community College District, which currently serves more than 20,000 students per semester and provides vital educational services to a 367 square-mile area, which includes the communities of the Santa Clarita Valley.
At Monday’s meeting, a pool of 13 applicants will be vying to fill Board Seat No. 5, which was vacated by former board member Scott Wilk, following his election to the California State Assembly in November 2012.
Each candidate will be afforded a roughly 10 to 12-minute interview, to be conducted by the board’s current members, during open session. After all candidates have interviewed, the board will have an opportunity to discuss the results, and vote on the appointment.
Due to the current election schedule for governing board members, this particular board seat will require the appointed trustee to run for re-election twice within the next 36-month period. The next regularly scheduled election due to affect Board Seat No. 5 is currently scheduled to take place in November 2013.
Time: 1:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan.14
Location: College of the Canyons Board Room, Hasley Hall, Room 132
