Invitation to Cover Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony Jan. 24

Subject: College of the Canyons Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Time: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24

Location: Hyatt Regency Valencia, main ballroom

Event: Five individual inductees and one team will be honored during the College of the Canyons Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The Hall of Fame’s 2013 class includes:

• 1975 State Championship Men’s Cross Country Team
• Former Softball Coach Ray Whitten
• Former Men’s Basketball Player Nick Sanderson
• Former Swimmer Christine (Castellano) Worby
• Former Softball Player Chantal Pershing
• Late Former Baseball Player Robert Corrales

“The 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame is once again a stellar group of inductees,” said Len Mohney, COC dean of athletics and physical education. “The night promises to be a gala affair.”
The COC Athletic Hall of Fame honors former student-athletes and teams who achieve excellence through competition, along with coaches, administrators and other athletic staff who have made a difference in the lives of their student-athletes and/or otherwise supported the college’s athletic programs.
Since 2005, the college has inducted 18 former student-athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and supporters into the Hall of Fame.
In November, the COC Athletics department officially unveiled its recently completed Athletic Hall of Fame trophy case, located in the foyer of the college’s West Physical Education building.
The new facility — open to the public for viewing during regular college business hours, and before/after COC sporting events — will provide a permanent home for a selection of the college’s more than 40 years worth of trophies, plaques, awards and accolades.

Proceeds from the bi-annual COC Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony event will continue to fund future additions and improvements to the trophy case and surrounding facility.
