Football, blues and honoring college alumni and friends — that’s what College of the Canyons’ Homecoming Weekend is all about.
The Homecoming Weekend will include the induction of the 2013 Outstanding Alumni & Friends into the college’s Alumni Hall of Fame, a special pre-show reception for the Official Blues Brothers Revue show at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) and a tailgate party to celebrate the Cougar football team’s homecoming game.
“This Homecoming Weekend will have something for everyone and is hosted by our brand new COC Alumni Network,” said Michele Edmonson, director of development for the college’s Foundation. “It’s been fun working side-by-side with alumni and students to create a celebration for COC, the place where we all got our start.”
The festivities will kick off on Friday, Nov. 1 with the College of the Canyons Alumni Hall of Fame Luncheon and Induction to honor the 2013 Outstanding Alumni & Friends. This year’s honorees include Diane Ayres, Brian Koegle and Yolanda Morton of Morton Manufacturing.
The Luncheon and Induction ceremony will be held in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The evening of Friday, Nov. 1 promises to be a night filled with humor, music and mayhem when The Official Blues Brothers Revue bring their live concert show to the PAC. Featuring all of the Blues Brothers classics, including “Soul Man,” “Sweet Home Chicago,” “Rawhide” and more, the live concert show combines the comedy and unforgettable hits from the original film, which started out as a “Saturday Night Live” sketch and turned into a cult classic.
As a special treat for college alumni, a meet-and-greet complimentary pre-show reception and discounted tickets to the Official Blues Brothers Revue show will be available. Alumni can purchase tickets for $36 each by calling the PAC Box Office.
“This is the perfect show for the Homecoming Weekend,” said Evy Warshawski, PAC executive director. “Both alumni and students will enjoy this hysterically funny act.”
Cougar football fans will be able to celebrate before the college’s homecoming game against the Moorpark College Raiders on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a tailgate party.
The party will begin at 4 p.m. with a no-host-bar reception in the Cougar Den, located on the college’s Valencia campus.
Tickets, which are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students, include a catered meal, drink and entrance to the game at 6 p.m. in Cougar Stadium.
