College of the Canyons to Host Annual Women’s Conference March 12

The annual College of the Canyons Women’s Conference returns this spring with an exciting lineup of presenters and breakout sessions that will explore issues such as healthy lifestyles, well-being and mindset, personal safety, financial wisdom, career assessment, and personal branding.

The focus of the event is to empower women of all generations to achieve their personal and professional goals through a day dedicated to personal growth, education, motivation and inspiration from women who are doing amazing things in the local community.

The 2016 College of the Canyons Women’s Conference, “It All Starts With YOU: Healthy Lifestyles and Personal Safety,” is scheduled 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located at the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).

“The conference will address important issues for women both on our campus and in the community,” said Dr. Diane Fiero, assistant superintendent/vice president of human resources at the college. “I hope to see many attend and benefit from the knowledge of our wonderful presenters.”

This year’s conference will focus on:

Personal Safety – Safety on campus, at home and in the community, as well as an opportunity to become first-aid and CPR certified

Healthy Mindset – Understanding healthy relationships, preventing risk-taking behaviors in teens and young adults, and suicide prevention.

Healthy Lifestyles – Caring for your health during different phases of life, affordable nutrition, infusing exercise into your life (a lively panel discussion from three providers located in the SCV), timeless beauty, and focusing on healthy body image.

Well-Being – Finding time for what you have always wanted to do and achieving and maintaining work/life balance, and creating “Funtastic” families. Includes featured sessions as well as a college student panel.

Career Assessment, Networking & Personal Branding – Creating professional networks and mentoring programs, financial wisdom, insights on social media personal branding and career interest assessment.

Also included are a buffet breakfast, spa-themed luncheon and shopping boutique. Vendors will be open for business throughout the day.

Keynote speaker is actress, mother and Santa Clarita Valley resident Tracey Gold.

Born into a show business family, Gold gained fame by playing the character Carol Seaver on the hit ABC comedy series “Growing Pains.” She has also starred in more than 20 other television projects, specials and feature films. In 2003, Gold released her autobiography, “Room To Grow.”

Gold’s presentation at the Women’s Conference is entitled “An Appetite for Life.”

General admission is $35 ($20 for students and college staff; identification required) and includes access to all events and activities, breakfast and lunch, and a ticket in the raffle drawing.
