Student Government to Host Congressional Candidate Forum April 22
The Associated Student Government (ASG) at College of the Canyons is inviting all students and community members to a public candidate forum with the eight individuals seeking election to California’s 25th Congressional District.
The 25th Congressional District Candidate Reception & Forum will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located on the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).
This event is free and open to the public and offers a chance for local voters to ask questions and make their voices heard in front of candidates seeking to serve as this region’s elected representative at the congressional level.
The evening will begin with a catered reception. During this time candidates will also have the opportunity to meet with attendees.
The candidate forum is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Each candidate will deliver an opening statement and then be asked to answer several pre-formulated questions. Members of the audience will then be able to ask questions directed to one or all of the candidates.
Anais Armin, College of the Canyons ASG president, and Ryan Joslin, Santa Clarita Community College District student trustee, will serve as moderators for the forum.
An invitation has been extended to each of the eight candidates in the 25th Congressional District race:
- David Bruce (L)
- Troy Castagna (R)
- State Sen. Steve Knight, (R-Antelope Valley)
- Michael Mussack (I)
- Lee Rogers (D)
- Navraj Singh (R)
- Tony Strickland (R)
- Evan Thomas (D)
Castagna, Knight, Mussack, Rogers, Strickland and Thomas have indicated they will participate in the forum. Bruce and Singh have not yet responded to the invitation.
The ASG is the representative voice of the students at College of the Canyons, and is the student organization responsible for coordinating social, cultural, educational and service programs for the campus.
