‘Blockbuster Summer’ Offers Seats for 19,000 Students
Students at College of the Canyons will have access to a ‘Blockbuster Summer’ schedule of classes — and a double feature of amazing opportunity — with two summer sessions designed to help students and community members realize their potential and achieve their educational goals.
The 2014 summer session will include seats for more than 19,000 students spread across more than 650 sections of high-demand “core” classes in a wide range of academic subjects and disciplines.
Representing an approximately 14 percent increase from last summer, the 2014 ‘Blockbuster Summer’ schedule will include courses offered at both the college’s Valencia and Canyon Country campus, as well as online.
The majority of class sections will be made up of courses that most students need to either graduate, transfer to a four-year school and/or meet prerequisites, providing an excellent opportunity for students to get a jump start on their course work before the start of the fall semester in August.
In addition, a number of elective and exploratory courses — which students often use to help determine their desired educational/career track — have also been included in the 2014 summer schedule.
“Students asked for more options this summer, and we’re delivering in a big way,” said Dr. Jerry Buckley, COC assistant superintendent/vice president of instruction. “With classes available at Valencia and Canyon Country, and online, there’s no better time to pick up a class needed to transfer, or learn a new skill.”
The college’s first five-week summer session will run June 9 to July 5 and will consist of online classes only. A second summer session will begin June 16, and include six, eight and 10-week course options.
The college’s summer schedule of classes is now posted online at www.canyons.edu. A printed schedule will not be offered to students.
Summer session registration for continuing students begins Wednesday, April 30. Returning student registration will begin Monday, May 19. High school students (11th and 12th grades) can begin registering Thursday, May 29.
A final late registration period for all students will begin Friday, June 2.
Summer 2014 enrollment fees at all 112 California Community Colleges will remain at $46-per-unit, as mandated by the state of California.
