Subject: College of the Canyons invites students, staff and community members to participate in a ‘Hope for Nepal’ earthquake relief fundraising activity benefitting the American Red Cross.
Event: Attendees will gather to design, prepare and display Tibeten prayer flags — cloths of different colors and sizes that traditionally include messages of hope — across the Valencia campus Honor Grove.
It is hoped that this representation of the popular Nepalese practice will produce a visual message of hope dedicated to victims of the country’s recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
With a goal to raise $3,000 in relief funds event participants are asked to donate $2 or more for each flag message they design.
All proceeds will benefit the efforts of the American Red Cross currently working in Nepal.
Scheduled participants include the college’s International Services & Programs office, the Associated Student Government, the Sustainability Center, the student TEDx Club, the Model United Nations team, and a variety of other college departments and student groups.
