College of the Canyons to Host Bi-Annual Job and Career Fair Oct. 14

The College of the Canyons Job & Career Center, in partnership with The Signal and KHTS AM 1220, will host its annual fall Job & Career Fair providing job seekers with employment opportunities in various industries and career fields.

The Job & Career fair is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the East P.E. gymnasium, located on the college’s Valencia campus.

The fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature a variety of employers seeking to fill entry, middle and upper level job opportunities, along with several free workshops.

Once again, the fair’s successful “virtual job fair,” sponsored by KHTS, will allow job seekers to apply for jobs with companies unable to attend the job fair.

Special guest presenter Stuart Fried, a career specialist with more than 30 years of experience in recruiting and coaching, will deliver a workshop on how to use the professional networking website, LinkedIn. The workshop will allow job seekers to learn how to find a new job, expand networks, and present themselves to decision makers with LinkedIn.

Another workshop presented by Kira Barlow, a career advisor at College of the Canyons and career counseling graduate student at CSUN, will help job seekers learn how to develop a successful online job search.

“Because many companies will direct job seekers to apply to jobs online, Job Fair attendees are also encouraged to visit the websites of companies who will be present at the fair and apply to jobs before the day of the event,” said Gina Bogna, the college’s assistant dean of internships, job development and career center.

A full list of employers scheduled to attend the event is located here, with more companies and businesses added each day.

Also included at this semester’s event will be the new Employer Showcase, featuring some of the Santa Clarita Valley’s largest and most reputable employers.

Included at the Employer Showcase will be a business-specific presentation about each organization and its company culture, along with a list of currently available employment opportunities and the desired candidate qualifications associated with each position. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions about each organization.

Employer Showcase schedule:

10:15 a.m. — Six Flags Magic Mountain
11 a.m. — Boston Scientific
Noon — Princess Cruises
1 p.m. — City of Santa Clarita

All Employer Showcase events will be held in the Student Center, PDR-2.

In the week leading up to the job fair, the Job & Career Center will host a pair of Resume Rallies where students and community members can have their resume critiqued, or create a new resume, in advance of the Job & Career Fair.

Resume Rallies are scheduled:

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, Valencia Campus (Canyons Hall, Room 102)
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, Canyon Country Campus (Quad 1, Bldg. B)

Both events are free to all students and community members, with no appointments needed.

For the Resume Rally, attendees without student parking passes should be prepared to purchase a one-day pass for $3, or print out a Resume Rally flyer from the college’s Career Services website and place it on their vehicle’s dashboard on the day of the event.
