Music Department to Showcase ‘Music of WWII’ for Fall Concert

The College of the Canyons music department will present the concert event ‘Music of World War II’ featuring the award winning COC Studio Jazz Ensemble & Lab Bands.

The ‘Music of World War II’ fall concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 23, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons.

The evening will include a selection of familiar 1940s tunes such as, “Little Brown Jug,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “In The Mood” and many more.

All songs will be performed by the award-winning College of the Canyons Studio Jazz Ensemble and student Jazz Lab band, under the direction of COC music director KC Manji.

The concert will also feature special guest vocalist, Katherine Lench-Meyering, who will be singing tunes such as, “A Tisket-A Tasket,” “At Last,” “I’ll Be Seeing You” and many more.

“Audiences will enjoy Katherine’s energetic stage presence and song styling that she brings to the band’s performance,” said Manji.

The COC Lab bands, made up of first and second year students, will be greeting people as they enter the PAC lobby. Each student has been preparing for the concert by putting together selected music from that era in U.S. history.

“We have a really great bunch of students this season and they have already made tremendous growth and progress,” said Manjii of the COC Lab bands. “I think audiences will thoroughly enjoy their portion of the program.”

The COC Studio Jazz Ensemble was recently named the 2015 State Champions by the California Alliance for Jazz — its second such honor in as many years.

“The group has been working hard to assemble an evening that is sure to bring back many memories,” Manji said.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for COC students and senior citizens.
