MakerSpace Presents Eco-Zombie Robot Challenge on Oct. 27

Subject: The College of the Canyons Valencia Campus MakerSpace will host an Eco-Zombie Robot Challenge, which involves student teams maneuvering eco-friendly zombie robots through challenging environmental tasks and a Halloween themed course.

Event: To get into the Halloween spirit, MakerSpace will be hosting an Eco-Zombie Robot Challenge, a free competition open to all COC students.

Prior to the competition, teams were provided with a free LEGO MindStorms 9797 robot kit to create a zombie robot outfitted in an eco-friendly costume.

At the competition, teams must guide their robot through a Halloween themed, corn-maze obstacle course while gathering recyclable materials of various weights scattered throughout the course. Teams will be timed during this portion of the competition.

The recyclable materials gathered by robots must be deposited at a Waste Diversion Facility located within the course in order to earn points.

Teams can “steal” recyclable materials from another team’s zombie, but only while those materials are in transit.

Prizes will be awarded to winning teams based on time and points earned.

Free food and refreshments will be served.

Time: Noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016.

Location: College of the Canyons Valencia Campus – COC MakerSpace is located inside the Student Center, adjacent to the cafeteria.
