Canyon Country Campus to Host Weekend of Family Fun

The College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus will host a pair of family-friendly events with its annual movie night and garden walk activities returning to campus on Nov. 4-5.

An outdoor screening of the Academy Award-winning Pixar animated film “Inside Out” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the campus’ outdoor Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, lounge chairs and jackets to enjoy the film screening under the stars. Free movie snacks will be provided, with other foods also available for purchase from an on-site food truck.

A special children’s activity hour, led by the college’s Early Childhood Education and TEACH programs will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., prior to the film screening.

“This will be our third annual movie night at the Canyon Country campus, and each year seems to draw a larger crowd,” said Anthony Michaelides, Acting Dean, Campus Services & Operations. “Movie Nights provide an opportunity for our local community to visit the campus, bring their family and enjoy an evening out at the movies.”

A guided garden walk and tour of the campus’ plant life has been scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5., just in time to herald the arrival of cooler temperatures and seasonal changes to campus flora.

Participants will be able to learn about the different types of native, drought-tolerant, invasive and eco-friendly plants and trees growing on campus.

“The campus garden walks have become a popular event, drawing a diverse crowd of students, faculty, staff and community members”, said Michaelides. “They are open to everyone, and are a fun way to get some exercise while learning about the beauty of our campus.”

In addition, tour participants will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty while planting and seeding a wildflower patch.

The walk will start at the flagpole in Lot 3, where parking will be free for tour participants.

Both the movie night and garden walk events are free and open to the public.
