Civic Engagement Club Exhibit to Raise Veteran Suicide Awareness

Subject: In an effort to raise awareness about the issue of veteran suicide, the College of the Canyons Civic Engagement Club has created a visual display of items that will be available for viewing at the college’s Canyon Country campus this week only.

Event: A collection of military uniforms, boots, helmets, flags, and religious symbols create a powerful visual display to raise awareness about the fact that 22 veterans commit suicide in the U.S. everyday.

Conceptualized by the Civic Engagement Club’s Veterans Committee, the display was created by club members and student veterans Christopher Borja and Christopher Sebring who were both wounded during their military service.

The responses and reactions of display viewers will be videotaped for a video project the students are working on.

A mental health professional from the college’s Student Health and Wellness / Mental Health program will be present to provide mental health services.

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, through Thursday, Nov. 10

Location: College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus – 17200 Sierra Highway, Santa Clarita, CA 91351, Cougar Way (next to the Canyons Café)
