News Release Home FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 03-04-09-Scholar Team March 4, 2009 2007 Women's Golf Team Earns Top Academic Honor The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) announced Wednesday that the 2007 College of the Canyons state champion women’s golf team has been named the 2007-08 Pepsi Scholar Women’s Golf Team. “It is an amazing feat when your team can win an academic award,” said College of the Canyons head coach Gary Peterson. “It is even more impressive when you can also win a state championship in the same year. I am very proud of the women of the 2007 team and applaud their pursuit of success in the classroom and on the golf course.” The honor is awarded to a sports team that had at least a combined GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated better-than-average accomplishments in intercollegiate athletic competition. The 2007 Cougar women’s golf team earned a 3.09 GPA while winning the Western State Conference, Southern California and State titles. Members of the 2007 team include Ashley Redmond and Darlene Bognot, who each earned a scholarship to compete at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky. Tessa Harp joined the golf program at Chicago State University, and Jenny Lee turned pro after a stellar career as a Cougar. Eleanna Tan transferred to UCLA, where she is a pre-med major. Freshman Ashley Windsor will return to COC’s golf team this fall for her sophomore season. The award will be presented to the team at the Pepsi Celebration of Student Athletes luncheon at the 12th Annual CCCAA Convention on Thursday, April 2, in Ontario, Calif. |
