Library Associates to Host ‘SuperTasting’ Wine Dinner

This May, the College of the Canyons Library Associates will present its inaugural ‘SuperTasting’ Wine Dinner, providing guests with answers to many of their wine-related questions.

Guided by Dr. Skip Newhall, the ‘SuperTasting’ will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 13, on the patio at Salt Creek Grille, located at 24415 Town Center Drive at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.

Notably different from traditional wine tastings, the event will feature selections from eight wineries, paired with a four-course meal specially selected by the chefs at Salt Creek Grille to complement the evening’s wine selection.

Throughout the evening guests will also learn the answers to some common wine questions including:

How does glass size affect your enjoyment of a good wine?
To help find out, a delightful 2005 Hewitt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will be tasted side-by-side, first in a large crystal glass, and then in a typical wine glass. The results may surprise you.

Does country of origin make a difference?
Two fine Sauvignon Blanc wines will be offered -- the 2008 Kim Crawford from New Zealand and the 2007 Markham from Napa Valley.

What about vintage year?
Guests will compare the 2007 and 2008 vintages of ZD Chardonnay, a brisk, well-balanced wine made from grapes from the Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Central Coast regions.

How different are similar varieties?
Find out when we compare two Napa red wines from Beaulieu Vineyards -- the 2005 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and 2005 Rutherford Merlot.

What’s for dessert?
Guests will not be able to resist this fabulous dessert wine -- the 2007 Martin-Weyrich Moscato Allegro from California’s Central Coast region.

This event is also part of the college’s ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration.

Tickets to the ‘SuperTasting’ Wine Dinner are $120 per person. All proceeds will benefit the College of the Canyons Foundation Library Associates. Seating is strictly limited and reservations are required.

To RSVP please contact the College of the Canyons Foundation at (661) 362-3434 by Friday, April 30.
