SBDC Partnership Brings Expanded Services to Antelope Valley

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted by College of the Canyons has established a partnership with the City of Lancaster, Wells Fargo Bank and the Antelope Valley Board of Trade (AVBOT) to bring increased counseling and training services to existing and prospective entrepreneurs throughout the Antelope Valley.

The SBDC hosted by College of the Canyons will serve as the core source of workshop trainers and business advisors for this new partnership, which will provide session topics in areas including increasing sales for existing businesses, business start-up and expansion, obtaining financing for your business and business plan development.

In addition, ideas and suggestions for additional session topics -- as well as inquiries from community members interested in teaching workshops based on their personal experience and expertise -- are welcomed.

Wells Fargo and the Antelope Valley Board of Trade are providing the use of their facilities to host the SBDC’s new lineup of low-cost workshops and no-cost counseling services.

“We are very pleased to welcome the City of Lancaster as a local sponsor of SBDC consulting and training activities,” said Steve Tannehill, Director of the SBDC hosted by College of the Canyons. “With their financial support, and the facilities support provided by the Antelope Valley Board of Trade and Wells Fargo, the SBDC will be able to provide its highly-regarded services to entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the Lancaster area.”

The City of Lancaster’s support of the SBDC’s lineup of expanded services in the Antelope Valley was established based on the notion that local economies thrive when small businesses thrive.

“It is one of our primary responsibilities as a City to build relationships and partnerships with agencies that will further the growth and development of our local business community, as it is the backbone of our financial stability,” said Vern Lawson, Director of Economic Development/Redevelopment with the City of Lancaster.

The new series of SBDC business training workshops will be conducted at the Lancaster Wells Fargo branch training facilities located at Wells Fargo Training Room, 802 West Lancaster Blvd., in Lancaster. Business counseling sessions will be held at the Antelope Valley Board of Trade offices located at 548 West Lancaster Blvd., Suite 103, in Lancaster.

The SBDC hosted by College of the Canyons was launched in January 2006 and serves the Santa Clarita, Antelope and San Fernando Valleys. SBDC business advisors assist prospective and existing small business owners in starting, retaining or expanding their businesses by providing workshops, one-on-one consulting, and many other resources to the business community.

The SBDC hosted by College of the Canyons is part of a network of seven Small Business Development Centers serving businesses from Santa Barbara County, Ventura County and Los Angeles County.
