Veterans Education/Vocational Benefits
General Information 

Staff advise and connect students with various on-campus support services. Staff provide information on all education/vocational benefit programs offered at COC for new, returning or continuing students. 
 

Veteran Peer Support  

Veteran students provide per support for other veteran students to help navigate college, share experiences, and knowledge as well as additional support.
 

Academic Support

Supportive services to maintain students' good standing, intervention to prevent academic probation or dismissal which may result in interruption of benefits. 
 

Student Computer Lab

Computer lab in our center for student use.
 

Scholarship Opportunities

Ricky Slocum Memorial Fund Scholarship, Warriors Scholarship, and other scholarship opportunities that are presented throughout the year.
 

Vet Center on Campus 

The Vet Center provide counseling for students and their families/dependents as well as referrals for off-campus services. The Vet Center is in the Student Health and Wellness Center every Thursday during regular business hours. Call the COC Veterans Program to schedule an appointment.
 

Other Transition Services 

Resource and employment binders, information board, America's Job Center of California, Salvation Army Haven.

Veterans Education/Vocational Benefits
Initial Advisement

Upon first contact, student will begin process by establishing veteran student record and submitting all required documents. Staff assist in applying for GI Bill, requesting civilian and military transcripts, accessing VonApp and e-benefits program for GI Bill. 
     

Veterans Education/Vocational Benefits Orientation

New student education/vocational benefits in depth orientation about using GI Bill at College of the Canyons.  Staff explain the process for scheduling counseling appointments. Mini Campus Tour.  
        

Academic Counseling Appointments (SEP)

Assistance in choosing an approved VA program; A.A., A.S. Develop Student Education Plan (SEP) with an Academic Counselor according to selected and approved major/program and VA guidelines.  
    

Processing Requests for payment for Education/Vocational Benefits 
Valencia Campus Only

Students submit a VP-20 form for enrollment certification to the Veterans Center, Building X-9 for Educational/Vocational Benefits payments.
