1. What is the Junior High Summer Institute?
The Junior High Summer Institute (JSI) at College of the Canyons provides middle school students opportunities to consider a career path and provides alternatives to traditional day care summer camp.
The JSI helps middle school students to identify, discover, and explore specific career areas. According to America’s Career Resource Network, research shows that a key indicator of future academic and career success is exposure to career awareness activities in grades 7-8. The goal is to introduce kids to possibilities that exist and prepare them to make decisions about high school coursework and, ultimately, their future. Summer 2011 includes welding, video gaming, fabrication, special effects, robotics, and more.
An Alternative to traditional daycare…
Most middle school students feel they are “too old for child care.” Most parents agree their kids benefit from a safe and engaged environment. The JSI provides early drop off and late pick up for working parents.
