Fines and Fees
The library does not charge daily overdue fines for most items. If materials are kept past their due date, you may be billed for the replacement cost of the items. You will need to return the materials or pay the bill to clear the hold placed on your records in the Admissions & Records Office.
The library charges $1/day fines for overdue 3-day reserve books. These fines will cumulate to a maximum of $50 and will not be refunded when the book is returned. An additional replacement fee will be charged if the book not returned.
The library charges fees for repair or replacement of damaged items.
Renewals and Holds
You can renew most Library materials by bringing them to the circulation desk on each floor.
You can renew books by phone Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Please call 661-362-3361 to renew by phone.
You may not be allowed to renew books if they are overdue.
You cannot renew an item if another student or staff member has placed a hold on it.
You can usually place a hold on an item, reserving your right to check it out at the end of its current circulation period.
Borrowers are limited to 20 items from the Main Stacks at a time. Borrowers may only have one 3-hour reserve item at a time.
Books (including audiobooks): 2 weeks (two renewals allowed)
Pamphlets: 1 week (two renewals allowed)
Music CDs: 1 week (3 CD Limit) (two renewals allowed)
DVDs/VHS: Room use only (instructors can check out for two weeks)
Opposing Viewpoints Books: 3 days (two renewals allowed)
Periodicals: New issues are room use only. Older issues may circulate for 3 days (two renewals allowed)
Reference Books: Room use only
Reserve Materials: Room use only or instructor-designated check out period (no renewals allowed)
Items from the Stacks may be returned to either library. Reserve items must be returned to the library where they were borrowed. Items may be placed in book drops when the library is closed. There are book drops located outside the library on each campus.
Study rooms are available for groups of two or more.
Study rooms are available on a first-come, first serve basis and may not be reserved in advance.
The time limit for study room use is for two hours.
One member of the study group must provide their student ID to check out a room key for the group.
Food is not allowed inside the study room.
Public parking is available in several lots with the purchase of a $3.00 day pass from the vending machines in the parking lots.
SCILNET (Community borrowing)
The community is welcome to use the library; however, only College of the Canyons students may check out materials. Temporary borrowing privileges can be arranged with a SCILNET card available through Santa Clarita Public Library or CalArts. COC students may get a SCILNET card for temporary access to these other libraries.
Public Use of the Library
community is welcome to use the library at either location. Certain resources, such as course reserves, and facilities, such as group study rooms, are limited to COC users only. There are public access computers, and there is guest wireless access.
