WELCOME FROM THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR
We are also launching a brand new course, Chem 090 - a course that will prepare students with the basics needed to work in a scientific lab but with a fun forensic approach. We are proud to be offering Chem 090 - Chemistry for Technology as it is part of the new General and Emerging Technologies (GET) Lab Technician program where students can learn more about the emerging field of nanotechnology. Contact Kathy Flynn, Program Director at kathy.flynn@canyons.edu for more information or see this COC News Release or the GET Lab Tech website. The professors in the chemistry department are warm and encouraging, and strive to give every student the attention they need to succeed. Together we can make the most of your science education. The department has wonderful laboratory facilities, equipped with current spectroscopic instrumentation. We are very pleased to be holding our Organic Chemistry classes in the new lab building, Aliso Hall, and to welcome students to our remodeled lab and lecture rooms in Boykin Hall. We think you will find both new spaces a great environment for learning chemistry. A student Chemistry Club has formed. I think you will agree this is a good opportunity for you to have fun with chemistry! The Chemistry Club had field trips to the Getty Research Institute and UCLA's California NanoSystems Institute. Activities for Fall will include more field trips and activities. Meeting times and events will be regularly updated through our department website. Remember at College of the Canyons, "start here, go anywhere."
