FAQs about the EMT Program
-
Why should I take Health Science 046
prior to taking Health Science 151(EMT)? Health Science 046 - Emergency
Medical Responder is the stepping stone to EMT. It is a three unit
course and provides the student with entry level knowledge of the
Emergency Medical System, and EMR skills such as pulse, respiration,
blood pressure and patient assessment. It also includes introduction to
EMS level anatomy and physiology. If you unsure which course is best for
you, please seek counseling advisement and/or email
patti.haley@canyons.edu.
-
If I completed the ROP Emergency Medical
Responder course, should I take Health Science 046? If you successfully
completed the ROP Emergency Medical Responder course, then you are ready
to enroll in Health Science 151.
-
If I successfully completed Health
Science 045, do I need to take Health Science 046 before enrolling in
the Health Science 151 course? No, Health Science 046 replaces the
Health Science 045 course. Either course, successfully completed will
prepare the student for Health Science 151.
-
I have completed a background check for
another COC Allied Health & Public Safety Division program. Do I need to
repeat my background check? If the background check is less than 6
months old, students must authorize the Allied Health& Public Safety
Division office to email a copy of the background to the EMT Program
Director.
-
May the EMT course be repeated? The
course may be repeated for "mandated training" (i.e. has allowed EMT
certification to expire, did not obtain certification as an EMT within
two years of the date on the completion certificate, or unable to
certify through National Registry.) A "request for Course Repetition"
must be submitted to Admissions.
