The College of the Canyons ESL Program is small and extremely friendly!
Full-time faculty members:
Prof. Heather Maclean (Department Chair)

Heather began at COC as an adjunct in 1999. She became full-time in 2001. Originally from the UK, Heather graduated with a BA in German and Russian, and then went on to teach ESL in Greece, and in the UK before spending three years teaching in Japan.  She came to the United States in 1996, and after a lazy three months, began her MA in TESOL at Monterey Institute of International Studies in 1997. After graduating the following year, Heather began teaching at UCLA Extension American Language Center and coordinating special programs including Practical Business English, Arts Management, on-site business programs and youth programs. In addition, she taught at Santa Monica Community College, Glendale Community College, and COC. She was a true freeway flier.

Since being at COC, Heather has had two boys, Gabriel now 4 and Alisdair now 2. She is also doing her doctorate in educational technology and strongly believes that all technology from phones to ipods to television to the Internet have an important role to play in language learning and today's society.
