TITLE: Library Technician--Access Services

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, Non-exempt
POSITION
SUMMARY
The Library Technician--Access Services, under the direction of the
Information & Access Services Librarian, is responsible for Access
Services, including: circulation, course reserves, assessment
management, serials management, supervision and other duties as
described below.
The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high-quality
service to all constituencies of Alliant International University. S/he
will exhibit professional standards and ethical principles and will be
committed to the tenets of

DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Circulation: Perform and supervise circulation
desk duties, including item check-in and check-out. Process Interlibrary
Loan requests. Send notices and bills for unreturned materials. Page
inter-campus items and use materials booking function. Develop work
schedule for coverage of desk. Resolve user circulation problems and
assist users with special needs and requests.
2.
Course Reserves: Coordinate course items as supplied by or
requested by faculty. Create and maintain course records for reserve
items. Scan items for electronic reserves. Identify new items to be
acquired for course reserves.
3.
Assessment Management: Coordinate collection and
circulation of psychological and educational tests. Serve as faculty
liaison for library support of assessment courses. Identify assessment
materials to be ordered. Oversee annual inventory of the assessment
collection
4.
Serials Management: Coordinate the receiving and binding
of print journals. Initiate and follow up on claims. Maintain catalog
records for print and electronic serials. Create reports of holdings.
5.
Audiovisual Services: Schedule faculty and student
requests for AV equipment use. Coordinate pick-up and return of
equipment. Instruct users in use of equipment, as necessary. Coordinate
repair and/or replacement of equipment with IT.
6.
Stacks Maintenance: Oversee shelving of library
materials, general shelf maintenance including shelf reading, searches
for lost items, space planning, and shifting of the collection as
needed.
7.
Supervision: Supervise student assistants working at the
circulation desk, including creating a Student Assistant work schedule
each semester, maintaining the schedule, and the hiring, training and
daily supervising of students. Oversee evaluation of student assistants’
job performance and coordinate projects assigned to student assistants.
8.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION
REQUIREMENTS

Education:
|
Bachelor's degree or Library Technician Certificate. |
|
Experience:
|
Library access and/or technical services and library automation,
especially the III Millennium software. Experience using the
OCLC Interlibrary Loan system, LINK+ and DOCLINE preferred.
|
|
Skills: |
Accurate word processing skills and strict attention to detail.
Strong customer service orientation, good oral communication,
tact and discretion, and the ability to interact with diverse
populations.
The ability to manage multiple tasks and to maintain composure
under pressure. The ability to work independently, as well as in
a team environment and to take initiative when appropriate.
