Job Summary:
Art Center College
of Design’s Library is seeking candidates for a part-time Library
Assistant vacancy in their busy Circulation department. The Library
Assistant is literally the front line of the Library.
Specific duties
include:

Perform public service at the Circulation Desk by directing and
assisting patrons in locating material; answer directional questions;
answer telephone inquiries; assist patrons using computers, printers,
copiers; Instruct students in using library resources, both electronic
and in print.

Charge
and discharge library materials, maintain and create patron records;
process fine payments, place materials on hold, send overdue notices,
claim missing materials, note lost materials, maintain library usage
statistics.

Accurately shelve materials, maintain shelf order and appearance, search
for missing items, maintain library study areas/bookshelves/periodical
displays; maintain library collections, maintain/troubleshoot office
equipment.

Open
and close library, following all procedures.
·
Participate in staff meetings and system oriented planning sessions.
·
Directs student assistants when supervisor is absent.
·
Supervise short-term and long-term projects to conclusion.
·
Assume
responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in
a safe, efficient manner.
The Circulation
department is under the general direction of the Assistant Director,
with Library Assistants reporting directly to the Public Services
Librarian. The successful candidate must be willing to train in all
Library departments, including Reference, Cataloging, Acquisitions and
Book Processing.
PLEASE NOTE: A few
evenings per week (closing10:00pm) and rotating Saturdays are REQUIRED.
Must commit to 20
hours/week.
Qualifications:
·
Knowledge of design or other art field relevant for Art Center College
of Design
·
Appropriate college coursework, Library technical training
·
Handle
and prioritize multiple tasks in response to varying time pressures.
·
Work
well in a high-pressure and fast-paced atmosphere.
·
Work
well in a small environment and as a team member.
·
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively, providing the highest level
of specialized service to the Art Center patron
·
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
·
Work
independently under general supervision.
·
Proficient computer skills.
·
Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment.
·
Basic
planning skills needed to prioritize work.
Preferred Qualifications:
·
Experience with library system software desired, online circulation
systems and OPACS.
·
AA or
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to
the Art Center audience
·
Demonstrated skills in problem-solving, oral and written communication.
·
Experience verifying and creating online records.
·
Previous academic library experience, a Library Technician Certificate
or currently enrolled in an accredited MLS program.
