JOB TITLE:  Learning Resource Center Assistant

SUMMARY:  Employee will develop and promote Learning Resource Center instructional activities to enhance the learning experience for students.  Employee will coordinate with Librarian for all necessary Learning Resource Center activities and acquisitions.

 ESSENTIAL; DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 ·        Assist students with research using electronic library resources

·        Assist students with educational software on the LRC computers

·        Promote student and faculty use of campus Learning Resource Center

·        Coordinate and schedule all campus Learning Resource Center instructional activities

·        Serve as the campus contact person and faculty liaison for all Learning Resource Center related issues

·        Collaborate with others and work individually to produce a variety of informational and instructional materials

·        Work with faculty to integrate information competencies into the curriculum by integrating resource-based learning experiences

·        Maintain inventory control of Learning Resource Center resources

·        Ensure Learning Resource Center cleanliness and organization of resources


 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree (AA or AS) required.  Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred.  Equivalent combination of education and experience also considered.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret printed materials and documents as they relate to subject matter being taught.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups.  Ability to give clear, expansive explanations of material being presented to students, providing examples as necessary to afford maximum student retention.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics.

 REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where specific standardization exists.  Ability to express an interested, dedicated involvement in subject matter and convey this relatedness to students.  Ability to create an environment of confidence and support for students.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 SOFTWARE SKILLS

Must be able to execute and explain basic electronic information searches using online sources.  Knowledge of/familiarity with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.  Ability to learn software programs used by SBBC in instruction.

 OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Must have working knowledge of personal computers, office equipment and audiovisual equipment.  Interpersonal skills to interact successfully, in person and by phone, with a wide variety of people to provide assistance, and explain policies and procedures. Ability to work independently and in groups, establish priorities, and organize work to meet workload requirements.  Thorough knowledge and understanding of the nature and function of libraries, of library services, standards and procedures; of bibliographic tools and records, publishing and publication formats and library information storage and retrieval systems.  Skill in interpreting and applying library policies, procedures and explaining technical material such as local and national library standards and rules; in using a computer terminal to input and retrieve information.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and listen.  The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger a computer keyboard, and handle the telephone.  The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Campuses located in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Bakersfield.

These are new positions to begin approximately 12/1/06 and there will be one position on each campus with Ventura, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria .5 FTE and Bakersfield being FT.
