Grading:

Grades will be based on the following criteria:

·         Attendance at all three on-campus sessions is mandatory (each unexcused absence will result in a 5% reduction in your score for the final grade).  Notify the instructor of your absences in advance if possible or as soon as possible afterwards.  You will be responsible for materials from missed classes.  Instructor will make reasonable accommodations to assist you.

·         Two assigned reading materials; questions will be on the exit exam.

·         Satisfactory completion of class assignments.  (40%)

ü   Completion of your resume and a cover letter for job application (20%), due 12/9/2009

ü   Exit exam, open book (20%), 12/9/2009

·         A satisfactory evaluation by your internship site supervisor and your completion of an internship self-evaluation.  A satisfactory evaluation by the site instructor will demonstrate that you have made significant progress on projects assigned by the site supervisor and have completed your internship commitment at the site.  Students who use current employment toward credit must also receive a satisfactory evaluation of your internship assignment by your current supervisor.  They must also complete a self-evaluation of internship assignment at the place of employment.  (60%)  Due 12/9/2009

Note to students already employed in a library/media center:

In order to apply hours from your current job in a library/media center toward your internship requirement, you must do the following:

  • Provide your supervisor with a copy of the handout describing the course objectives and site supervisor responsibilities.

  • Arrange with your supervisor to observe or, if possible and appropriate, participate in some tasks not ordinarily part of your daily responsibility.

  • Have your supervisor write a brief evaluation of your internship assignment.

  • Write a two-page report outlining new skills you have learned at the place of your employment and their importance in a library/media center.  (This report will be calculated into the 60% of your course grade described under Grading, above.)
