approximately 27% until 2012.
What to Paralegals do?
Anything an attorney can do (under supervision of
an attorney) except sign legal documents, represent client in court, set
fees, or establish the attorney client relationship. Typical activities
include: Factual and legal research; Organization of client matters;
Drafting correspondence, pleadings and discovery for attorney review;
Legal calendaring; Preparing subject matter databases; Interaction with
clients, court personnel, and opposing attorneys; Reviewing, evaluating,
and summarizing medical, business, commercial, and other records for
attorneys; and Reviewing legal documents (contracts, insurance policies,
etc.) to spot controversial issues.
Do I need to find my own Internship?
No, you can apply for a Paralegal
or Legal Assistant internship anytime during your studies by connecting
to the Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) website.
Can my current legal employer count as my internship requirement?
Perhaps if the employer agrees to give you paralegal level work for your
work place project and/or give you additional responsibilities or
project if currently working in a paralegal-type capacity.
If I do not obtain an AA or a certificate in Paralegal Studies can I
work as a paralegal?
According to the Business and Professions Code
6450, only those who have completed certain education requirements, may
hold themselves out as paralegals. |
