Mandatory
supplies:
Camera: 35mm SLR camera with manual operation and working light meter
-- no instamatic cameras. Canon Rebel EOS is a good starter camera, around
$350 new.
Film: Kodak T-Max 100 (for outdoor or bright light) or T-Max 400 (for
indoor or low light). You may also buy the brand Ilford. Make sure the
black and white film you purchase is developed through the traditional
silver process. DO NOT use C-41 process film. This is color film that
looks black and white. It must be sent to a commercial lab to process.
Since lighting conditions vary depending on how you execute the assignments
purchase film as needed. Expect to shoot at least 15 -20 rolls of film
for this course.
Paper: 50 -100 8x10” sheets of either Kodak Polycontrast RC or Ilford
Multigrade RC. Glossy, Pearl, or Matte surface is acceptable. DO NOT EXPOSE
PAPER or FILM TO LIGHT OR HEAT. OPEN PAPER ONLY IN DARKROOM UNDER SAFELIGHTS.
Gray card
A package of plastic negative protectors: 5 frames across, 7 rows down
to fit in standard 3 ring binder
A package of 8x10 plastic sleeves: to hold photographs and proof sheets
Hard-cover 3 ring binder (1” is big enough)
