Safety Rules and Equipment USAGE 08/15/05Maximum Occupancy • 35 are the maximum number of people allowed in the entire lab at one time. • If the number of people exceeds 35 you will be asked to wait in the hall until there is room. No exceptions. • Classes scheduled have priority in the lab. Lab use, other than open lab time, is at the discretion of the instructor on duty. Lab hours are as follows: Monday - Thursday 8:00 am-9:45 pm Friday 9:00 am-4:00 pm Saturday 9:00am-2:00pm You must be enrolled in open lab to use the lab outside of your class time. • No film developing later than 1 hour before closing. • Final print call for fiber paper is 9:15 Monday-Thursday. 3:15pm on Fri, 1:15pm Sat. • All prints done after 9:15pm will not be available until the next day. • Final print call for RC paper is 45 minutes before closing. • Final wash 30 minutes before closing. • All kits must be checked in 15 minutes before closing. • All Students must be out of lab by closing time! Lab Tech on Duty • Lab tech on duty can be identified by their red apron and I.D. badge. • If you notice any faulty equipment, exhausted chemistry, lack of chemistry, or safety hazards contact the Lab Tech that is on duty. • Lab Techs are not instructors and may not be able to help with technical questions. Access • Only authorized instructors, staff, photo/ multi media students are • Allowed in the lab. • No unregistered guest is allowed in the lab without permission. • Children are not allowed in the lab at any time. • No food or drink in the lab at all, period. Emergencies: • It is part of everyoneŐs duty to monitor safety. If you notice a potential safety hazard, spill, anything suspicious, or if it seems stuffy in the lab please notify an instructor or lab tech immediately. • If a medical emergency occurs, please notify an instructor or lab tech immediately. Health Risks: • The photo lab contains chemicals that may be hazardous to your health. They can cause long-term health and reproductive system problems. • Chemistry: Students are not allowed to use non-approved chemicals. Chemicals purchased by students must be approved by Lab supervisor prior to their use. • Students are not allowed to mix, handle, or refill our chemistry. • All alternative chemistry if available must be checked out through a lab tech. • All toners are limited to one-hour check out. Only two students at a time may tone prints. Toner must be used at one-hour intervals. This is to allow sufficient ventilation time in between uses. • No glues, epoxies, resins, spray adhesives or toxic substances may be used in the lab AT ALL! This is a major offense and could result in losing lab privileges. Print Care • Any prints left in the fixer bath will be disposed of. • Fiber prints done at the end of the day will not be washed until the next morning. • Any prints left in wash or dryer at closing must be left until the following day. • Clean prints can be claimed from the cage with student ID. Abandoned prints will be disposed of at the end of the semester. Equipment Checkout: • No School I.D. No Equipment No Exceptions • In order to use the lab or check out equipment, all students must present a valid COC ID with current photo dept. stickers. • Please bring your ID with your class printout from registration to the cage in the photo lab and we will issue photo lab stickers. • We do not accept driverŐs licenses, credit cards, or car keys as ID. • Students are financially responsible for the equipment checked out to them. • Over night check-out equipment available: Tripods, portable lights, flashes, cable releases, 35mm, medium format and 4X5 cameras, and various types of lens and filters. Check out restrictions • You can reserve equipment, or the studio starting on Monday at 12 noon of that week. • Equipment may be reserved no more than 2 weeks in advance. Phone reservations for the studio can be made but the reservations will be taken after students waiting in the lab have been helped. • Advanced cameras (medium format, 4x5) and portable lighting may only be checked out 1 time per week. • You are limited to 1 weekend checkout per month with this equipment. • Non-digital equipment is due by 10:00 am on the due date. • Some equipment such as darkroom kits is for on campus use only and should not under any circumstances be taken off campus or left unattended. Digital check out • Digital equipment is due between 10:00 am-1:00 pm • Please download all images before 1:00 pm. • All cameras must be ready for check out by 1:00 pm • All images left on memory cards will be erased. Late returns • If you return equipment late you will receive a warning after the first incident. • A second occurrence will result in loss of all lab privileges for one week. • A third occurrence will result in loss of all lab privileges for two weeks. • A fourth occurrence will result in loss of all lab privileges for the rest of the semester and under discretion of the department head may be carried over into the following semester. Lockers • We have lockers in the lab and the restroom entryways. • Please bring a lock and sign the locker list before using your locker. You must have your lock in hand to reserve a locker. • All lockers must be cleaned out before Wednesday of finals week. All locks will be cut off after that time and its contents disposed of. Computers • We have computers with Photoshop and many other programs in the Lab for photo student use. • Please do not leave files on the hard drive as they may be deleted. • DO NOT install any unauthorized software or hardware. • Priority is given to students working on photography and graphics projects over those students using the computers for typing and surfing. Important NotesYou must be enrolled in open lab to use the lab outside of your class time.If you drop your photo class you lose your lab and equipment checkout privileges. You will no longer be allowed to use the lab.I have read and understand the preceding statement(s) and I realize that if I fail to uphold these rules my lab and equipment checkout privileges will be revoked. Loss of privileges that occur at the end of the semester will carry over to the following semester.
