BERKELEY REP
Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s Fellowship
Program provides a remarkable opportunity
for those who strive for a career in
theatre. It’s my hope that you will share
information about this opportunity with your
students.
Born in a storefront, Berkeley Rep has
moved to the forefront of American theatre.
In four decades, four million people have
enjoyed more than 300 shows at Berkeley Rep,
including over 60 world premieres. Known for
its core values of innovation and
excellence, as well as its educated and
adventurous audience, Berkeley Rep provides
a safe haven for emerging and established
artists to explore new ideas. Its vital and
versatile facility – which includes the
400-seat Thrust Stage, the 600-seat Roda
Theatre, and the Berkeley Rep School of
Theatre – is the linchpin of a bustling arts
district that has helped revitalize downtown
Berkeley.
In
recognition of its place on the national
stage, Berkeley Rep was honored with the
Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre
in 1997. In the last six years, the company
has helped send six shows to Broadway. Seven
more landed off-Broadway, one moved to
London, two turned into films, and others
have toured the nation. A not-for-profit
organization, the theatre now welcomes an
annual audience of 180,000, serves 24,000
students, and hosts dozens of community
groups, thanks to 1,000 volunteers and more
than 440 artists, artisans, and
administrators.
Each
year, Berkeley Rep’s fellows are directly
exposed to the Theatre’s daily operations
and given the opportunity to provide support
for the award-winning company’s ambitious
and innovative body of work. They learn
alongside an accomplished company of
artists, administrators, guest directors,
and designers. Each fellowship requires an
11-month commitment.
Applicants to Berkeley Rep’s Fellowship
Program should be serious-minded, highly
motivated individuals who have already
acquired basic training and experience in
theatre and are ready for the next step
toward a career in professional theatre.
They should be willing to engage in the
creative process and to test the limits of
their own ingenuity.
Below you will find information about the
fellowships offered, a sample application,
and an overview of the program which can be
posted. I hope you will pass this
information on. Complete program information
