ID 102 - Applied Color for Designers
| Interior Design majors, Graphic Design majors, Multimedia majors, and anyone interested in color find this class not only exciting, rewarding, and a lot of fun, but a class that allows them to explore color as an important trade tool. Students' first project involves developing a complex color wheel using only primary colors and black and white paint. Here students develop the ability to identify thousands of colors variations by pure sight. Students' manipulate color using a variety of methods such as value, intensity, and advancing and receding principles. Other projects explore the use of texture while keeping the color pallet constant and light. Students explore marketing with color by identifying colors used in hotels, schools, houses of worship, libraries, consumable products, and products in general. Additionally, students' examine the emotional impact of color in TV, Film, and Theatre by writing a short paper on a current production. They experiment with color and emotion by creating color schemes that communicate specific adjectives. Lastly, their final project for the semester is a group assignment of their choice appropriate to their major. Regardless of the project, students are required to present projects incorporating composition of form, shape, line, and balance. |
