ID 113 - Interior Design Materials and Specifications
Students learn how to select appropriate
materials for residential and non-residential projects. Materials include,
but are not limited to: paint, wall-coverings; hard and soft flooring such as
tiles and carpet; counter materials such as stone, tiles, and man made materials
such as faux stone. Additionally, textiles are covered extensively and
appropriately for interior spaces. Window treatments are addressed in
terms of materials, fabrication workrooms, window measurements, calculating
yardage, hardware and installation. Furniture construction for upholstered
and case goods are also addressed in terms of wood, wood cuts, joinery,
framing, and finishes. Students not only select appropriate materials for a
given project, but specify the materials as if for a real project. Field trips are an integral component of this
class. Students' visit design showrooms, and fabrication shops throughout
the semester. |
