Born
in Nicaragua. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Hispanic
Literatures from the University of California, Riverside
and a Bachelor in Liberal Arts with a major in Journalism
from California State University, San Marcos. She has completed
post-graduate courses in the United States and Spain in
the area of Latin American Literature and films as well
as education. Her pending thesis is the area of literature
and film. Prof. Acosta has lived and traveled throughout
Central, South America, and Spain. She has developed and
currently directs the Intensive Spanish Institute Programs
at COC. She enjoys writing short stories and film scripts,
and is currently co-author of a language publication. Her
interests in third world films lead her to initiate the

Acuña |

Born
in Ecuador. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Hispanic
Literature from the California State University, Los Angeles.
Her Bachelors degrees are in the area of Education and
Spanish. She has been teaching Spanish language over 19
years at the university level. She is interested in Art
specifically Artesania. She loves to travel around the
world, she recently returned from Japan where she attended
the World Cup (soccer) games. [top] |

Alexander |

Born
in Barcelona, Spain. She lived also for an extended period
of time in Argentina and Brazil. Obtained a B. A. in Romance
Languages and a M.A. in Spanish Literature from the University
of Oregon. Additiionally, upon completion of a Master degree,
continued three years of PhD level work on Medieval Literature
of Spain (UC, Davis). She has over 15 years of teaching
experience, five at College of the Canyons. Prof.
Alexander has been recognized on “Who is Who
Among America’s Teachers” by student nomination,
in 2002. Before coming to US, the conclusion of her drama
studies was followed by a well-established and successful
career as a professional actor on stage, television and
films. Now, in addition to teaching, she enjoys her old
pursuit of reading and writing.

Maga |

Native
Californian. She received her bachelor degree in Spanish
Literature from CSU Los Angeles and her Master degree in
Spanish Linguistics from the University of California,
Los Angeles. She is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at
East Los Angeles College. She loves going to the beach
and mountains. Presently she is training her Golden Retriever
to serve the community as a licensed Therapy Dog. [top] |

Born
in Puerto Rico. Prof. Martin earned his Ph.D. and MA in
Spanish from UC Irvine and his BA in Social Work from the
University of Maryland. He also holds a certificate in
Modern Standard Arabic from the Defense Language Institute.
He taught at the University of Nevada, Truman State University,
Orange Coast Community College, and the University of Maryland.
He has extensive experience in translation. [top] |

Palma |

Born
in Chile. She received her Bachelor degree in Education
from the Metropolitan University. Other studies include
Spanish Language degree from the State Technical University.
She was the Academic Coordinator of Spanish at the Catholic
University in Santiago Chile for fourteen years. Prof.
Palma worked as a High School teacher for over twenty years
in her native country. She moved to California three years
ago where she works as a Bilingual Instructional Assistant

Pozo |

Born
in Perú. Her undergraduate degree in Social Work
comes from the Catholic Universiy in Perú. She currently
is working on her Master degree in Spanish Language and
Literature at the California State University, Northridge.
She has taught Spanish language to students of all ages.
She loves teaching, Prof. Pozo believes that sharing her

Ben
Somoza |

Born
in Cuba. Professor Somoza moved to the United States in
1962. He briefly lived on the East Coast and eventually
settled in Las Vegas where he graduated from the University
of Nevada with a Master degree in Spanish Literature and
Linguistics. Born into a family soccer plays on Cuba’s
national team, Prof. Somoza became a competitive figure
skater. Aside from teaching, he has a professional translation
and interpreting company, and enjoys skating, watching
foreign films and jaunts to the beach. [top] |
