This will be a 100% online class – which means that there will not be any on-campus face-to-face meetings. However, exams will be taken on campus in the TLC. If you do not live near campus, please click here for further instructions. (You can still take the class, you just need to arrange for a proctor.) Most of your questions should be answered by the syllabus, but if not, please feel free to e-mail me. If you have a question that will also help others, I will post the question and answer here. (Don’t worry, I won’t post your name or any other identifying information.)
FAQs:
Q: How do I get into the class website?
A: Click here for the instructions. You should be able to log in starting on September 8th. It will not be available until September 8th. Only officially enrolled students will have an account, and you must complete the orientation discussion board by September 9th, or risk being dropped from the course.
Q: I want to add the class. Can you let me in?
A: I have instructions in my syllabus that state that all enrolled students must log into our website and post on the orientation discussion board by September 9th, or they will be dropped. I will give out add codes for any open seats on September 10th. If you wish to add the class, please e-mail me before September 10th. I will add students from the official waitlist first, then it will be first-come, first-served, for any remaining seats. I will not add any students into the class after September 12th. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Q: How will I take my exams if I do live near
campus?
A: Exams will be available in the TLC, several days prior to the due date of the exam as listed on the syllabus. To take an exam in the TLC, you will need to show your student ID, and tell the staff that you need to take an exam for Dr. Riveira’s online Psych 230 class. You may take an exam at any time that the lab is open – but it is probably wiser to make an appointment. An exam does not have to be taken on the date that it is due. (You may take it early!) However, it must be completed by the date listed on the syllabus. You will be taking it online in the TLC, so be sure you know your Blackboard account information. The staff at the TLC will have the password to access each online exam.
Q:
What if I will not be within driving distance of CoC
when an exam is due?
A: This question is answered above (at the top of the page). However, please click here for further instructions.
Q: What are the hours for the TLC?
Q: How do I know if an online class is for
me? How can I gain the skills to do well
in an online class?
A: I highly recommend that students enroll in Couns 070 if you have these types of questions.
Q: What do we do for the chapter assignments?
A: Your chapter assignments can be found in “Chapter Assignments.” First, click on “Chapter Assignments,” then click on the chapter you need to complete.
Q: What textbook will you be using?
Please see the syllabus.
Q: Do I have to take the exams on the day listed
on the schedule? Do I have to turn in
all assignments on the day listed in the schedule?
A: No. You may do them earlier. Usually the exams will be in the TLC prior to the due date. So, you can schedule a day/time that works best for you. With regard to the assignments, you will have access to them earlier, and may certainly work ahead (and, you are encouraged to do so – it’s much better than doing the assignments at the last minute!). It's also wise to save a copy of your assignments – just in case there are any technical problems.
Q: When are the due dates for assignments,
exams, etc.?
A: Those are all on the syllabus. Please see that document.
